21: Arab Superpower

Can Planting a Trillion New Trees Save the World? To fight climate change, companies and nonprofits have been promoting worldwide planting campaigns. Getting to a trillion is easier said than done. ....... the nonprofit was paying residents of Engenho to plant trees because individual and corporate donors, especially in the United States and Europe, wanted people in other parts of the world to plant trees. ....... Many of the companies offer trees at prices well within the reach of the average American or European consumer. One Tree Planted promises to plant one tree for each dollar it receives in donation. So do Earth Day; the National Forest Foundation; Grow Clean Air; ReTree; #TeamTrees; One Dollar, One Tree; and Trees4Trees. Plant-for-the-Planet has 1-euro trees. Just One Tree and (more:trees) each offer 1-pound trees. Trees for the Future will plant a tree for 25 cents, on average. Eden will do it in most places for as little as 15 cents. (The trees being planted in Engenho cost 33 cents apiece.) ......... Then, last year, Eden arrived, offering to pay villagers to plant trees. “It seemed like a dream,” Santos said. “I even joked with them that it sounds too good to be true.” ........

In a world of grasshopperish myopia, planting trees has long been a symbol of antlike forethought.

........... Chinese proverb: “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago; the second-best time is today.” ......... These forest-based credits allowed companies to offset their emissions and provided a continuous revenue stream to the holders of the credits, so long as the carbon remained locked away. ............. the Trillion Tree Campaign. ........ Using a blend of satellite images, artificial intelligence and extrapolation, they estimated that Earth held roughly three trillion trees, about half its total when people first began practicing agriculture, about 10,000 years ago. Furthermore, they concluded something like 15 billion trees were still being cleared each year, for a net loss of about 10 billion trees annually.

The Spiritual Ladder And Democracy

Humanity is a chain, only as strong as its weakest link. To you personally every single human being matters. Heaven On Earth is not possible unless every single human being is on board.

The big picture is, I am for a total spread of democracy, and I am for using every possible weapon of nonviolence to that end.

God is the one authority. And since the only place a human being can connect with God is in his/her personal space, the people collectively are the only legitimate source of earthly power.

That political proposition is urgent and global. If that means Arab countries need to switch to constitutional monarchies, then so be it. If that means the Chinese Communist Party needs to offer the people two candidates for president, governor and mayor, then so be it.

Every human being has a right to free speech. Free will is a gift from God to people. Every human being has a right to religious freedom. You can pray to God the way you choose to. Peaceful practice of religion is a political right.

Violence is not allowed. A legitimate state curbs possibilities of violence through threat of force.

This global political infrastructure with the right to free speech, and the right to peaceful religious practice firmly in place makes room for advanced spiritual undertakings. Advanced spiritual undertakings, as well as advanced economic and social processes.

A One State Solution

At best it looks like soft apartheid.

Israel Elects a One-State President
Over time, a series of other Likud politicians have faced the contradiction between democracy and ruling over the Palestinians of the occupied territories, and have concluded that Israel must seek a two-state solution. Rivlin once described this as the equivalent of an ultra-Orthodox Jew turning his back on religion. To avoid this heresy, Rivlin has declared that Israel should annex the West Bank and give the Palestinians citizenship. He has become a one-stater..... the only possible democratic outcome for Israelis and Palestinians is a binational state ..... the one-staters of the right aren't at all interested in binationalism. And at closer examination, they aren't proposing a true shared democracy ..... a folksy, friendly president who "would prefer for the Palestinians to be citizens of this country rather than divide the land ..... "in the Land of Israel, whether we like it or not, both Jews and Arabs live. Thus any diplomatic solution based on separation is not feasible." You can't fault him for lack of chutzpah; he gave this speech at memorial ceremony for assassinated prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was killed for his commitment to the opposite view. .... The Jews would vote for a Jewish parliament and the Palestinians for an Arab parliament ..... Rivlin is committed to the three principles of the Whole Land, democracy, and a Jewish nation-state. He doesn't know how to fit them together ..... The single state would change its electoral system, designing voting districts to reduce Palestinian political power ..... She, like the others, leaves Gaza out of the picture, as if the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can end with no change in the besieged coastal enclave. .... What Rivlin and the rest share is professed confidence that a single state from river to sea can be both democratic and Jewish, with a large Palestinian population that is denied national rights. ...... They do share a certain brazenness with those Palestinian one-staters who hope that with a narrow Palestinian majority, they can have a Palestinian state. .... neither group is giving up its national aspirations, and creating a single state would mean continuing the conflict under new conditions. To the extent that President Rivlin becomes a symbol of the potential for a one-state solution, he will be the friendly, good-humored symbol of a dangerous illusion

How We Have Failed Iran

Dumb White People (DMPs) And Iran
The Fraud In Iran
Iran: This Is What I Am Talking About

There are things I know, and there are things I don't know. A democracy movement is something I know. The Iranian diaspora in the west lives in the smog where if you are not white or black, you are a potential terrorist. I am not even Arab, but I have lost count of how many times I have had to go through the potential terrorist treatment by people in authority. At some point you have to go cynical. These are not people in pain from 9/11. These are racist people who intend to disrespect and exploit 9/11.

It is hard to argue democracy is the best form of government there is when racism exists in the most advanced of democracies.

It is hard for the diaspora to get organized in the face of racism and racist immigration laws and regimes. What's wrong with having a residency requirement for voting? If you have lived in New York City two years, you should be able to vote in the city elections.

My Third World People Don't Get To Vote In This City

The goal of the protests in Iran could not have been to redo the fraud election. Then all the mullah had to do in response was say no. The goal should have organically been shifted to end the regime itself. That shift would have been made possible by a vibrant and organized diaspora and budding political parties.

The king of Nepal issued a shoot at sight order during April 2006, but we still succeeded. (Shoot At Sight Order: Dead End For The King) The mullah's repression is not the reason the movement in Iran is failing. It is lack of leadership and vision. It is a lack of logistical help from the concerned global audience. Movements need money, message and organization.
