Three Crises: China, Iran, DC

The US faces a trade war with China, an almost war with Iran, and it faces a constitutional crisis in Washington DC. Of the three the last might be the biggest.

The White House's stonewalling on demands from the US Congress have reached uncharted territory.

I have read up much more on the trade war than the other two. It is an unfolding scenario. I don't see a well thought out strategy. I do note that there seems to be bipartisan support on the Hill. What is the endgame scenario?

The "Kicking Donkey" party logo is still a well-known symbol for the Democratic Party, despite no longer being the official logo of the party. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
In his sixth year, a two term president always loses that mid-term election. This is normal.

I don't know if 2014 is a wave that will go all the way to 2016, or if it means the Supreme Court ruling years ago to open the money flood gates is taking its toll, or that a Republican Congress makes a Democratic White House in 2017 more likely. I don't know.

I have not paid too much attention to this election except to root a little bit for a guy I rooted a lot for in the 2008 election cycle. But it is not like I have not paid any attention at all. Everyone seems to be resigned to the Republicans taking over the House. The pendulum of democracy is about to swing, looks like. But if that be the outcome, it will shake the Republican establishment as much as the Democratic establishment. Cost cutting is going to get more politically urgent.

Charlie Rangel: The Bear Stearns Of US Congress

DENVER - AUGUST 25: Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY...Image by Getty Images via @daylifeThere are many people including several members of the New York congressional delegation (standing ovations to old man Charlie, come on) who seem to suggest Charlie is a good guy because other members of Congress have also been involved in the kind of behavior that Charlie has been involved in.

That is like saying because many banks were involved in the nefarious finance schemes, so the first bank you catch should be let go.

Charlie Rangel in the news is a US Congress that passed Wall Street reform but is itself fundamentally unreformed. Standing by Charlie is exactly the wrong thing to do. The right thing to do is to pass Congress reform. And there is enough time before the November election to do that.

The US Congress that made bad Wall Street behavior possible stays unreformed. That is the news here. The blame goes to both parties. And the work for Congress reform has to start NOW!

This is not a one party versus the other party issue. This is about the American people losing further faith in the US Congress, in the political system. This is about fighting impending cynicism.

This is not a one party versus the other party issue but is going to be if foolish Dems keep standing by Rangel. Rangel is indefensible. Instead stand on the side of Congress reform.
